I am currently reading a very good book, it is 'The City of Dreaming Books' by Walter Moers. This book is definitely moving up to my 'favorites' lists, and i am not even done. The book is just great for someone my age, and a bit older, because the language is so sophisticated, but in a way that any audience can enjoy it, and it includes such a vast expanse of great literary devices. I want to say how good it is, but i may have to tell a bit about it, and a give little of a re-tell (sorry Ms. R!) so, SPOILER ALERT!!! it's about this city, called Bookholm (it takes place in a very fantastical world with many species of weird creatures), and everyone in the city is obsessed with literature. They are either a writer, publisher, critic, or book seller, and the city even has a mysterious deserted underground, where the evil 'Shadow King' lives. Anyway, the main character; Optimus Yarnspinner (a dinosaur) sets out from his home, to take a break after his authoritative god-father died, to Bookholm. He then gets turned on by a 'friend' and finds himself in the under-ground city. But that's only where i got up-to.
Anyway, the book is great. It has such a rich vocabulary, and one attribute i like about it is that he tells the story so well from the point of view of the dinosaur, i sometimes forget a human wrote it! It does have a bit of humor in it, and that makes it really enjoyable. Walter Moers uses great description too, he really sets the scene so that you feel like you are there with Optimus Yarnspinner. Plus there are some really nice illustrations in the book too, they really let you see what is happening, and with the description, it is really something else.
The point is that i really like this book, and any one from age 10+ can have fun with it too. Just the way he writes is amazing, and is really good. And his imagination for the world in the book is great, he had to create sooo many new names for writers, new species, and fake poetic and prose writing. He really captivates your mind with his kind of great writing, and once I'm done with this book, i am totally reading his other book!
You must read all the other books in the zamonia series. start with the 13 1/2 live of captain bluebear. Al his books are about adventure witch is why they're sooo awesome in rumo he introduces love and desire in a way so diiiferent frrom the regular lame teenage love theme and stuff.
