I've just begun to reread one of my "all-time-favorites" AirBorn by Kenneth Oppel. This is the first in a trilogy of grappling, sci-fi, adventure books, that are extremely well-written, and that i would recommend to anyone in my age group. Set in a futuristic France, this is about one 16-19 year old boy's adventures aboard (and being a captain of) an airship. This does include a love interest, pirates,treasure, and just plain science-y, sci-fi.
Although Kenneth Oppel isn't a famous writer, his books are astounding (mind you i only read the tree) and anyone who likes "edge-of-their-seat" climatic books would love the series. But enough on selling the book to you, and more on the themes and deep topics!
Although dramatically cliched (a poor-ish boy with a mother and sister living in poverty, trying to get the money to go to the air-ship academy but falls in love, and then gets magically swept into adventure as he battles pirates, and love) it isn't as bad as it would seem. And it really doesn't say anything about our society, being that it's in the future, witch is totally weird coming from a sci-fi book. Any-who, read this book!!!
you have such a voice in your writing! my favorite thing in this post is not just the fact that you manage to talk and think about the book, but the fact that you also are advertising it. by saying things like "if you like this kind of book..." it makes us know and want to know more about it. good work!
